In December Bates students had a great time making a Chinese Knot Christmas Ornaments. Students learned how create an unique ornament by tying knots. It was a great way to celebrate culture and the holiday season.

Friday December 19th Pajama Day (no slippers) and short day 8:30 am - 12:20 pm

5th Grade Happenings
Our fifth grade at Bates Elementary has been having a lot of fun these past few months!
They had an amazing time exploring physical and chemical changes with the Discovery Gateway team—learning through fun, hands-on experiments and smiles all around!
They also had an exciting and educational field trip starting the day at the Weber High, experiencing the magic of a live musical—Anastasia. Next, they headed to the Allan plant Co, where hands-on activities helped them explore how geothermal energy works and why it matters to our community. 🎭⚡️
The field trip blended art and science in the best way, giving students real-world connections to what they learn in class. We’re proud of their curiosity and can’t wait for more adventures ahead! 🌟"

At Bates Elementary, we know the power of a great story! That's why we've launched our reading corner featuring a collection of books personally recommended by our incredible teaching staff.
Each title represents a teacher's cherished memory—the books that taught them, inspired them, and made them fall in love with reading.
Come see which stories are closest to our teachers' hearts! 💖
This week we are featuring Ms. Jorgensen a fifth grade teacher at Bates.
Her favorite childhood book was Fantastic Mr. Fox by Ronald Dahl.
This was one of her favorite books read by my school librarian when she was in 3rd grade.

For our Chinese Corner’s November activity we made bracelets. The students designed and created their own bracelets, each featuring a “Fu” charm symbolizing good luck and blessings, allowing them to experience the joy of culture and hands-on creativity.

Principal Sederholm's favorite book are all the Harry Potter Books. He loves the storyline and all of the characters. He actually didn't read them until he was in his early 20's, when he knew he was going to go into education. He decided to start reading some books children loved so he could use them in his classroom.

Next week, December 1 st -5th , we will be collecting donations to help buy
Christmas presents for students at our school and in our community who need help this holiday season.
Grades will be competing against each other to see who can bring in the most donations, so students will put their donations in a bucket in their classrooms marked “Coins for Christmas” each morning.
***Dollars For Donuts will look a little differently this year!
We will collect money for donuts on THURSDAY, Dec. 4th and deliver donuts at lunchtime on FRIDAY, Dec. 5th (If your student orders multiple sleeves, or will not be eating them in the lunchroom, they will be delivered to their classroom for them to put in their backpack for after school).
Each student will get one little donut for each dollar donated, and a pack of donuts for each $5 donated. They will be able to choose from chocolate
or powdered sugar.
This year we also have a Giving Tree with tags for specific gifts for families at our school-ranging from $5-$100. After purchasing the gift, please return it unwrapped to the school with the red Giving Tree ornament taped to it. Giving Tree donations are all due on Friday, Dec. 5th .
As Always, thank you for all of your generosity and support!!!

Bates Elementary's Lost and Found is currently overflowing! We have an abundance of jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, water bottles, and more.
With the cooler weather here, please take a moment to look through our collection, especially if your child is missing a coat!
Stop by the school hallway past the office to reclaim your belongings!
