Next week, December 1 st -5th , we will be collecting donations to help buy
Christmas presents for students at our school and in our community who need help this holiday season.
Grades will be competing against each other to see who can bring in the most donations, so students will put their donations in a bucket in their classrooms marked “Coins for Christmas” each morning.
***Dollars For Donuts will look a little differently this year!
We will collect money for donuts on THURSDAY, Dec. 4th and deliver donuts at lunchtime on FRIDAY, Dec. 5th (If your student orders multiple sleeves, or will not be eating them in the lunchroom, they will be delivered to their classroom for them to put in their backpack for after school).
Each student will get one little donut for each dollar donated, and a pack of donuts for each $5 donated. They will be able to choose from chocolate
or powdered sugar.
This year we also have a Giving Tree with tags for specific gifts for families at our school-ranging from $5-$100. After purchasing the gift, please return it unwrapped to the school with the red Giving Tree ornament taped to it. Giving Tree donations are all due on Friday, Dec. 5th .
As Always, thank you for all of your generosity and support!!!

Bates Elementary's Lost and Found is currently overflowing! We have an abundance of jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, water bottles, and more.

Utah is known for its winter conditions, with the Ogden area receiving over five feet of snowfall annually. During the winter months, temperatures typically average in the 20s and 30s, and it is common to experience patterns of cold and snowy weather.
Despite challenging weather, Weber School District has a responsibility to keep schools open as long as they can be operated safely and effectively. The community relies on our schools for the essential services they provide to children and families, so any adjustment to the school schedule has to be made with great care and consideration.
On snowy days, custodial and maintenance crews assess each school early to ensure buildings are safe to open. Adequate staff must also be on-site before classes begin. Our transportation department also monitors weather and road conditions to ensure buses can operate safely
If schools can be safely opened and buses can run on schedule, classes will be held as usual. Otherwise, the superintendent will decide whether to adjust the schedule, which may include delaying the start of school by one or two hours, depending on the conditions. Delayed starts do not require the day to be made up later in the school year.
Notifications of delays or closures will be sent out as soon as reasonably possible via text, email, and Remind messages. Please ensure you are signed up to receive these notifications.
Ultimately, it is a parent’s decision to send their child to school. If a parent feels their child cannot safely get to school, they should make the best decision regarding attendance. If a student is late or misses class due to concerns about safely getting to school in adverse weather, we will work closely with them to make up any missed assignments.
Weber School District serves over 33,000 students across 48 schools, where weather conditions can vary by community. Decisions to delay or cancel school are made with careful consideration based on district-wide circumstances, while also balancing the needs of families. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

This Veterans Day, Bates Elementary students came together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country.
As the students looked up to the flag flying high above Cold Water Canyon they beautifully sang patriotic songs and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a moving tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of our veterans.
Thank you to all who have served! We salute you today and every day.

A big thank-you to our wonderful parents and junior high volunteers for their generous support and help — your contributions made this event even more special!
Starting this year, we’ll host a monthly themed Chinese Corner, led by all Chinese teachers with help from PTA and student volunteers. Each month will bring new cultural fun — we can’t wait to see even more families join our next event! ❤️🏮

Our very first featured book comes from Mrs. Gifford, our wonderful Instructional Coach!
📖 Featured Book: The Flying Hockey Stick by Jolly Roger Bradfield
This imaginative tale was Mrs. Gifford's absolute favorite book growing up.
Reading is an adventure, and we hope the Bates Reading Corner helps all our students discover their next great story. Happy reading!

Halloween is quickly approaching, and so is our annual Halloween parade! The Halloween
parade is a very popular event at Bates Elementary and draws a large crowd of families
and friends each year. We recognize that holding a parade presents a challenge in our
ongoing commitment to keeping our students safe. To minimize risk, we ask you to follow
the guidelines below.
● If you would like to observe the parade, please go to the back playground on the
blacktop. Caution tape will be placed to show the route that students will come
out of the school and enter back into the school.
● When - Friday, October 31st at 8:45 am.
● Please help your student adhere to the following Halloween Costume guidelines:
○ Students should arrive at school dressed in their costumes.
○ Costumes should reflect our school and district policies.
■ Full-face masks and weapons (real or simulated) are prohibited.
■ If your student’s costume requires face paint, please minimally apply it
so your student's face is recognizable. Full face paint is prohibited.
■ Because students of all ages will see your child’s costume, please select
one to wear to school that doesn’t include blood or gore.
■ Please leave handheld accessories at home. (Too often on a busy day,
these items become lost.)
■ Please avoid costumes that are culturally inappropriate, stereotypical,
or racially insensitive.
● We ask parents to only take pictures of their student(s).
Please understand these guidelines are put in place for the safety of our students. If you
have any specific questions about costumes or the events of that day, please contact the
office for additional clarification.
We look forward to celebrating this fun event with you! The students and faculty at Bates
Elementary are fortunate to be surrounded by a supportive community. We are very
appreciative of all the big and little things you do daily to support our school.

Bates Elementary, Principal

Bates Elementary had a special visit from our Superintendency and district leaders. They came to recognize students who completed their summer reading and math challenge. They also took the time to read a fun story with the students. Bates Bison want to give a huge thank you to the district for encouraging students to be lifelong learners.

Every day, Mrs. Gifford works tirelessly behind the scenes, providing invaluable support, guidance, and innovative strategies that help our Bates Bison thrive.
Thank you, Mrs. Gifford, for all you do to make Bates Elementary a brighter place to learn and grow!
