3- Review of TSSA information for upcoming TSSA plan – Laura Wright
TSSA money is not voted on, however input into the budget comes from community council and teachers. TSSA funding reported as extensively as the Trustlands funds.
Last year’s budget $83,200 and there were two goals: Goal #1 Dibels and readings growth grades 1-6 and Goal #2 Grades 3-6 will be proficient on the identified learning targets. The funding allocations were as follows: paraprofessional ($64,000), funding of .25 of a salary to reduce class size ($9,000), mental health professional funding with software to identify needs ($4,000), teacher stipends for additional professional development ($6,000). There may a surplus up to $6,000 as COVID did prevent some of the teacher stipends for professional development from occurring. Current suggestion is to use surplus help fund additional Smart panels and more money may be needed to help with mental health professional costs. No official decisions were made yet to determine the TSSA allocation (TSSA funding allocation does not require a vote from community council).
4- Digital Citizenship Discussion – Laura Wright
Discussion on digital citizenship. Weber School district has professionals in BDO that handle the technology needs for the district. Servers and web filtering go on here. There is BARK which is one filtering system but there is also another filtering where a report is sent to the principal on inappropriate content searches. Filtering is different depending on age group (for instance elementary level vs high school level). Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA) trains children on the appropriate use technology at Bates this training includes chromebook usage. Priorities include protecting children’s data and apps which do not protect data are not used by the district. Personal device policy is no usage during school time.
Discussion of subcommittee formation for digital citizenship including some student leaders at the 5th and 6th grade levels for next year. Additional discussions about some students creating a video as well to help share with other students messaging.
There was also a discussion on a community night discussing technology sometime next year.
Community council responsibilities related to digital citizenship include: Administration presents the school plan and practices to the community council. The community council is supposed to address how this information is being disseminated and understood by parents, faculty, and, of course, students.
