Community Council Agenda/Minutes November 6, 2019

Attendance Roster below – 1 Council Member (parent) was not in attendance

1-Welcome and Introductions - Tiffany Godfrey

The meeting began with introductions of everyone.

2-Review of previous minutes - Jessica Widrick

Jessica Widrick reviewed the minutes from the September 4th, 2019 meeting.  

Motion: To approve the September 4th 2019 Minutes

Made by Tiffany Godfrey.  2nd by Marjean Swanson.  Voting was unanimous.  

3-Review of Student Data-Laura Wright and WSD Curriculum Department

Laura Wright reviewed DIBELS (K through 3rd) data.  The state goal of 48% students to make typical or above typical growth was met.  Of all students, 49% made typical or above typical growth and 74% were at or above the benchmark.  There was discussion on the Reading Horizons program which was newly introduced and initial indications show improvement but there is no data yet available to review.  

Jennifer Boyer-Thurgood and Sheri Heiter from the District Office came to present additional data for review.  They work with schools with special programs (like dual language immersion or DLI). Data reviewed included RISE data from 3rd through 6th grade.  The data showed scores from ELA (English, Language, and Arts), Math, and Science.  The data was broken up to compare state, district, overall Bates school (both DLI and traditional students), DLI students at Bates, and traditional students at Bates.  In addition, Jennifer Boyer-Thurgood and Sheri Heiter reviewed results from DLI programs for the expected language proficiency for grades 3 through 6, and how many dual immersion students have recently taken and passed the AP exams for their language (grades 9 through 11).

This data review will help aid the council in the decisions going forward.
