School Safety/Digital Citizenship Plan.

Brent Hogan reviewed the school safety plan.  Bates uses the standard response protocol used by the state.  Training is provided for teachers.  Fire drills and lock down drills occur 4x per year.  Earthquake drills are normally once per year and typically timed in April with the Great Utah Shakeout.  A lockdown drill was performed last month where North Ogden police helped and participated.  There are a few types of drills with this system.  A secure drill is where kids are kept in the building (normally due to something like wildlife – deer or moose), security of the doors are double checked and children in portables are brought into the building.  This is for when things are okay inside the building, but some sort of unsafe condition exists outside the building so things operate as normal except no recess and children kept inside.  Holds are when there is an issue but not a threat in the building (say medical issues where emergency services need to operate in hallway), and everything operates as normal except children are kept in their classrooms.  During a lockdown drill, children remain inside and do not exit building even for a fire alarm unless there is actual visible smoke or fire.
